Just a quick little post this week to highlight a fabulous leather maker called Jason, having read on Instagram this morning that he is going up, up, up in the world of handmade leather goods! Having met Jason a couple of years back, I can honestly say that he is a wonderful teacher, maker and so passionate about his craft. To say he inspired me is an understatement. In fact, I attribute much of my own leather journey so far to having participated in one of his courses – Diamond Awl Leather Workshop – which I can’t recommend enough. Now it seems he’s becoming something of a celebrity within the British maker movement as he will be part of a team of makers featured in the new series Handmade in Great Britain, due to air on BBC2 on 26th October. If you are a craftsman (or woman!) or have an interest in learning more about traditional British manufacture, I would urge you to set your digi-box to record so you don’t miss an episode!! He commented on his Instagram profile;
“Really pleased to make the cover of Yorkshire Post Sat mag, out this Sat. On the back of new BBC2 series Handmade in Great Britain starting 26th October 9pm. Me and three of nicest makers you could meet @charltonnicoll@kvblacksmith @clairedeluneart We spent the Summer filming this six part series celebrating British craft and industry around UK. Privileged to be part of this. Tune in Friday 26th Oct to see more.”
It’s so good to hear that there is an appreciation for handmade goods out there and that passionate, talented makers are gaining the recognition they deserve. Well done Jason and your fellow BBC2 maker colleagues!
I’m looking forward to seeing you soon on the ‘big screen’ and hope to meet again for another one of your amazing courses in the near future.
